About Malaysia Visual Artist - Foong Yeng Yeng
Foong Yeng Yeng, born on 1995 August 27th, from Seri Kembangan, Kuala Lumpur. A carefree, happy-go-lucky girl who is Malaysia’ artist of mixed media, photomontage ,collage and Dadaism Art. since 2015, Educated by professional college, Malaysian institute of art (MIA).
As early as five years old, she began attending art tuition centre to learn basic art and was very active in her primary and secondary school years in participating various art competitions and activities. Those resulted her becoming an honorary student and participant in her days.
In 2012, an art competition organized by The One academy Malaysian awarded her a prize of RM5000, 2012 Malaysia top 10 outstanding younger artist. She then began pursuing higher education on Fine art , in Malaysian institute of art.
Despite her age, she does not stop, trying her best to be at the top like an remain at the top. She has received merit awards by Malaysian Institute of Art for her excellencin both performances and academics. Currently turning twenty-two age, adventurous is her motto within her. On her sophomore year, since 2016, she began her first group exhibition to the public , titled: Eh wau bulan, organized by Redbull Sdn . Bhd. Malaysia, at Publika White Box, Kuala Lumpur.
Red Bull is inviting aspiring Malaysian artists to submit their original work for a two-week art exhibition titled #EhWauBulan, Art show case. The exhibition, feature 59 selected artists to commemorate the nation’s 59th year of independence. Thw show curated by a distinguished panel of experts led by street artist Fritilldea, contemporary artist Ivan Lam and National Visual Arts Development Board trustee and artist Phillip Wong. Titled of her work was: Skillful Grandma, Mixed Media & collage on canvas ,sized A1. “The sewing machine represents my best memories of my grandmother – I used to sit beside her and watch her sew spectacular and colourful textiles and fabric.”
Recently, she is among the participants of the 2017, 101 women show(Di mana Young?) staged by the National art gallery Malaysia, curated by Tan Hui Koon. The aim of this exhibition is to exhibit the work of 101 inter-generation Malaysian contemporary female artists, drawing from the permanent collections of the National Art Gallery, from invited artists and through open call entries. The work showcases the commitment these artists have shown towards challenging the status quo. Titled of her work was : women , Mixed media and collage ,sized 5ft x 5ft. “This artwork began with a sketch of self-portrait as the work is about how a person ( I ) changes throughout life. So, layers of portraits of my mother, my grandmother and I are drawn with exploration of variety materials and media in order to obtain structures and details of the portraits such as wrinkles, the texture of skin and size of the faces from birth, childhood, teenage years, maturity and lastly, getting old. So this artwork is more on cycle of a girl’s life through the generations as they all will look like their own mothers and grandmothers in the end in such endless cycle of reality.”
And among the student as well to participate the Blossom Art Festival 2017 Mural painting, Held by Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) at the Ampang Park LRT station. Taken three days to complete the mural Painting, she was leader of team , with 8 members student from MIA fine art department.
